Why are we doing this?
The objective of this expedition is to lead a team of 13 varsity students who will cycle a distance of over 1500km in 14 days along the West Coast of Peninsula Malaysia and past the border of Thailand up to Phuket.
The route will take us through over 20 towns, numerous major states in Malaysia and Thailand.
With such a huge distance, this expedition is certainly a huge challenge and test of our personal mental and physical limits.
At the end of this trip, we hope that we will not only emerge as stronger individuals, but also as individuals with a heart to help and impact the world that we live in.
Besides our desire to help the children of ST pocket Money Fund, this expedition is in a way an opportunity to live our personal dreams and passions. We feel that combining our personal dreams and passions with community work is a more sustainable way of contributing back.
With this expedition, we hope to reach out to other youths and inspire them; that in addition to living our (their) dream, we (they) can help the less privileged achieve theirs as well. This we hope, will leave an impact beyond that of our expedition.
It has begun... (00:16:44)

For posterity, the brave first trio were Benedict, Timothy Tay and Taran! (from left to right)
They have just kick-started (literally) the first 24hr pedalling challenge located outside Pick N Bite under the Li-Ka-Shing Library within SMU.
The 14 riders have come from diverse backgrounds, seeking to accomplish a singular purpose: To help the kids that will benefit from the Straits Times Pocket Money Fund.
The 1500km, 14 day expedition will be flagged off later during the summer break, but before that, this is our first blast from the heart!
Instead of simply drumming up publicity through posters and brochures, what else could be a better way to demonstrate our commitment and dedication if not by letting our legs and the revolutions do the talking? 24hrs, 12noon to 12 noon to boot!
First a skinny (from the grapevine) about the riders pictured above:
Benedict is a first year Business student. He's an avid rider, the current Admin IC of the organic Biking Team within the SMUXtremists club in SMU. So while not pedalling for the STPMF, he can be seen outside wearing the SMUX biking team jersey with pride as well! While he's not tearing up the roads in his size (60!) Cannondale pictured here, he also rides a Kona MTB on the recreational Friday night rides that we have sometimes. (Tall, strong, handsome? Single to boot!?? =p)
Timothy Tay is one of the 2 Timothys (the other Timothy goes by the last name Lim) that we have on board the team. He's a freshman at the School of Social Sciences. Don't let his smaller stature (when standing next to Benedict! kekeke) fool you for one moment. He's donned his Ironman 70.3 Singapore 2007 kit in all black colours. Read the message on the back of the jersey if you can catch him! On last weekend's training ride, he shrugged off a minor accident that left dried blood on his shoulder, forearms and carried on as if nothing had happened! =)
Taran, one of the flowers among the grasses of the team. She's a third year Business student who has joined the team (upon Sarah's urging?!? =p) Despite her newbie status, with not much experience on the road (yet), she has courageously stepped up to the challenge of joining the team! All ye naysayers don't discount her right away though, she was previously from track & field ok! And can you believe she went for 2 loops of Changi Coastal on her MTB with semi-knobblies and was still smiling at the end! What a lady! =)
